that's a very close minded statement Mike. first of there are lots of cities which have 2 pro teams. Jays don't suck, Leafs well were rebuilding. don't follow basketball. and even if a new team showed up they would probably still out sell 80% of the league. Toronto has been one of the least successful teams since the lock out yet we are still the to grossing team of sales by a wide margin. and that'swhat is about money first. its business. i don't really care either way, i am a Leafs fan always will be. if it Sparks a light under the Leafs and creates job's in our area then i'm all for it. we will still out sell the Bruins.or fans are loyal thick and thin. not saying you, but Bruins fan seem to multiply when they win. besides Toronto is winning the cup this year! may have been 48 years or whatever but we are still the 2nd must successful cup franchise behind the 2nd Canadian market that could support a another team.

the New York metropolitan area has 3 NHL teams, Rangers, Islanders and Devils only 1 of them is successful. should NY area have 3 teams ?
did you know that about 30% of NHL ticket revenue is from 6 canadian teams (prior to winnipeg) 6 teams, impressive since 23 (now) teams are in the states. Imagine what another Toronto based team would do, stats would probably be closer to 40 or higher.
we may not be succesful but we support our teams. Toronto is a very diverse and successful city. They are not in an economic crisis like majority of urban us cities that have pro teams. Another team would thrive here. Plus, it is a could chance it will be Pheonix team or NYI. Pheonix is a playoff bound franchise and NYI has great youth and in 5 years when this stadium could be built it will be a different story for that club.
p.s. jays are only 2 games back from sox and your mls team is shit as well. and none of boston area teams won anything last year either. all their success is in the past, just as toronto's is. More current or not, its still the past.
Toronto is winning the cup this year and then we can talk, lol

Anybody that has tried to get good leaf tickets, knows how badly that area needs another nhl team. Also I am pretty sure by now that many leafs fans are ready to jump ship if they put another team in that area (cause getting tickets to leafs games has been a problem for fans for over a decade) .. AND it would also piss brian burke off so I am all for that lol.
If they did not put another team in Quebec and add a 2nd in Toronto area, it would be a huge mistake cause usa expansion or relocation has proven over and over that it don't work in the states so its time to put teams in a place that actually wants hockey (i.e. Canada)
The 6 Canadian teams basically keep the nhl a float as it is.. In Canada hockey is the number 1, 2 and 3 sports wise with baseball being 4th.. In the states hockey is not even in the top 6 for sports. As a hockey fan thats embarrassing to me. So the nhl has to stop forcing a sport down the throat of a country that dont want it and focus on places that would sell out every game and the Canadian teams do that already..
Outside of maybe 10-12 usa teams, the rest have some kind of issue money wise or etc.. That would never happen if the teams were in Canada..
The teams listed below have been having huge issues for years, Tampa has to give away 2 for 1 ticket deals just to get the arena half full.. Its a joke
Phoenix Jackets Devils Sabers Islanders Florida Tampa bay Anaheim Dallas
and thats just a few of them.. The Canadian teams carry the nhl and it will always be that way, so more teams in a place that actually wants hockey is only a good thing..

I wish I could remember the source but I heard on the radio a few months ago something about the need for NHL ticket in Toronto. Something like 900,000 people called themselves Leaf fans and followed the team but hadn't been to a game in 5 years. Those numbers could be all wrong but it was something that sent the message: there is much more demand then supply in Toronto for the Leafs. Some of that would have to transfer to a new team. Especially because so many Leaf fans hate Leaf management so much.

You are right tom, the math is a bit off.. But the lack of tickets for fans has been a issue for a long time.. so many leafs fans have been so mad about that for so long, that if they put a 2nd team in the area, its guaranteed to sell out every game because so many leafs fans are hockey starved and cant get tickets.. most those fans have to go to sabers games or islander games to see hockey.. The ontario area basically supports those 2 teams as it is.
